Shopping in Bogotá: Bookstores, Local Design and Markets

A practical guide to shopping in Bogotá beyond the malls: bookstores in old houses, design neighborhoods, antique dealers and markets.

Shopping in Bogotá can be much more than going to a mall. There are bookstores in old houses, streets of antique dealers, boutiques by local designers and huge clothing markets. This guide explains by area where to find each thing, without recommending specific stores.

Independent bookstores: Chapinero, Teusaquillo, Quinta Camacho and Zona G

According to an April 2026 note from the city government, these four areas concentrate independent bookstores housed in old houses, quiet corners and hidden courtyards. They are close to one another, so you can explore them in any order.

What you can find:

  • New books from independent publishers, with catalogs of Latin American literature, poetry, philosophy, illustrated books and emerging authors.
  • Used, antique and out-of-print books, including first editions. Some bookstores have decades of family history.
  • Books combined with other products, such as vinyl records, films and comics.
  • Activities: discussion groups, book launches, workshops, intimate concerts, film screenings and children’s readings. Some bookstores offer coffee in the courtyard.

Some bookstores announce their schedule on Instagram, so check their social media before you go.

Usaquén: cobblestone streets and flea market

Visit Bogotá describes Usaquén as a place of cobblestone streets, boutique shops and a Sunday flea market. There you’ll find local brands, handmade accessories, illustrations, jewelry, art and Colombian crafts. A 2026 guide says the flea market runs on Sundays.

Chapinero and Quinta Camacho: concept stores and independent brands

The same portal places alternative fashion, emerging design and contemporary ideas in Chapinero, with specialty cafés, concept stores, independent brands and creative workshops. It’s a good neighborhood to explore on foot: cafés, bookstores and shops sit side by side within a few blocks.

The Calle de los Anticuarios

Visit Bogotá mentions the “Calle de los Anticuarios” (Antique Dealers’ Street), in the north of the city, as a place with local crafts, jewelry, designer clothing and decorative objects. It’s a stroll through objects with a history.

San Victorino and El GranSan: clothing by volume

If you’re looking for clothing, textiles and accessories in large quantities, San Victorino is, according to Visit Bogotá, a hub of constant movement, known for its huge variety and for urban fashion and local production. Very close by is El GranSan, another commercial hub with hundreds of fashion offerings for different styles and budgets. These are busy places: watch your belongings.

Shopping malls

For big brands and shopping of all kinds, Visit Bogotá lists several malls spread across the city. They’re an option if you prefer to have everything in one place.

Practical tips

  • Check opening hours on each store’s website or social media. Several bookstores and independent shops keep their own schedules.
  • See whether they sell online. Some independent stores sell over the internet and ship to your home or let you pick up in store.
  • In very crowded areas, keep your phone and wallet in a safe place.
  • Some bookstore websites may be under renovation. If the site doesn’t load, look for their Instagram.
  • For purchases with a warranty or returns, ask about the exchange policy before paying.

In short

  • Independent bookstores: Chapinero, Teusaquillo, Quinta Camacho and Zona G, in old houses and with cultural activities.
  • Usaquén: Sunday flea market and boutiques on cobblestone streets.
  • Chapinero: concept stores, independent brands and cafés.
  • Calle de los Anticuarios: antiques, crafts and decor.
  • San Victorino and El GranSan: clothing and textiles on a large scale.
  • Shopping malls: for well-known brands and convenience.
